Lake Wylie Dam  / AKA /  Fort Mill Dam 

Name:   Lake Wylie Dam  AKA Fort Mill Dam

Description:  This dam was built in 1924 and is basically on the outside unchanged.  The dam backs up Lake Wylie on the Catawba River.   It was renamed Lake Wylie dam in 1960.  A fantastic place to take pictures of birds and the river.  At the  parking lot there is a nice concrete deck to fish or view the river  and a concrete trail to another viewing place closer to the dam. 

GPS Address:  2505 New Gray Rock Road Fort Mill,  SC  (First road on the left when GPS arrives. You will not see sign until you turn. )

I77 south take Exit 83 Sutton Road. Turn right on Sutton 1.5 miles to New Gray Rock Road turn left 1.5 miles to Catawba River Access.  You cannot see the sign from the road.

Parking:  Catawba River Access Fort Mill Dam

Cost:  Free 

Difficulty:  Easy concrete trail some steps 

Kind of photos:  Nature the old dam lots of birds. Osprey, eagles, gulls, herons, Loons other water birds.
